Passreif B1
A daily lesson up to your exam date: grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening, writing, speaking and mock exams.
To become a German citizen, adults usually need German at level B1 and a pass in the Einbürgerungstest (citizenship test). Source: § 10 StAG
A daily lesson up to your exam date: grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening, writing, speaking and mock exams.
All 460 catalogue questions, the 310 for your federal state and a mock exam like the real one. With a translation in eight languages.
Both results are listed in § 10 StAG. They are separate exams with separate providers, and you can take them in either order.
Proof of German at level B1. Two exams are common: telc Deutsch B1 (Zertifikat Deutsch) and the DTZ (Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer).
Knowledge of law, society and daily life in Germany. 33 questions, 60 minutes, pass with 17 correct answers.
We suggest starting with German, because the citizenship test is in German too. You can start at either step.
All 460 questions of the official catalogue (as of 7 May 2025). The 310 for your federal state are the ones that count.

33 questions, 60 minutes, only in German, like on the day. Afterwards you practise exactly the ones you got wrong.
A question counts as secure only after you have answered it correctly in two different sessions. Questions return on a schedule:
The question always stays in German. The translation sits underneath it; Arabic and Persian run right to left.
With the real images: coats of arms, maps with numbered regions and photos.
No ads and no data collected. Countdown to your exam date, a daily goal, a daily reminder, light and dark mode.
iPhone from iOS 16 (including iPhone 8), Android 7 or newer. One purchase covers all devices with the same Apple ID or Google account. Purchases do not carry over between iPhone and Android.
“One lesson a day. Until you are ready for the exam.”
Your plan is built around your exam date and your study days: a full lesson (about 2 hours) on study days and a short lesson (about 25 minutes) on the others.

telc Deutsch B1 or DTZ, switchable at any time; the plan adapts. Written and oral mock exams in the exam format.
Plus Redemittel (useful phrases) and a Fehlerlog that collects your weak points.
Writing training with an automatic letter check. Speaking training with a simulated partner and a recorder. A pronunciation track for Arabic speakers.
Lessons are in German, with English explanations as the bridge language.

The two products handle data differently, so they are described separately.
Usually yes: citizenship normally requires German at level B1 and a passed Einbürgerungstest (§ 10 StAG). The two Passreif products are separate purchases and neither unlocks the other. If you already have one of the two results, you only need the other product.
Both prove German at level B1. telc Deutsch B1 (Zertifikat Deutsch) is a general language exam by telc gGmbH. The DTZ (Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer) is the language exam at the end of the integration course. The parts differ slightly: Sprachbausteine only exist in telc. In Passreif B1 you can switch between the two at any time and the plan adapts.
No. Passreif is an independent app and does not belong to any authority. The questions come from the public catalogue published by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF). Passreif B1 is not affiliated with telc gGmbH or g.a.s.t. The BAMF also offers a free online test centre where you can practise the questions for your federal state.
No. Each product is a single payment: the app costs €2.99, Passreif B1 costs €19.99. Updates are included. Neither product has a free version or trial.
The app always works offline; it makes no internet connection. Passreif B1 runs in the browser and also works offline after you have signed in.
No. Nobody can honestly promise that.
The Einbürgerungstest shows that you know the legal and social order and the living conditions in Germany. It is one of the requirements for citizenship. You take it at a BAMF test centre; the questions come from a public catalogue.
The test has 33 questions with four answer options each, and you have 60 minutes. 30 questions cover general topics, 3 are about the federal state of your main residence. You pass with at least 17 correct answers.
The BAMF catalogue has 460 questions: 300 general ones and 10 for each of the 16 federal states. 310 of them count for you. The current catalogue is dated 7 May 2025, and Passreif contains all of it.
Taking the test costs 25 euros. You register at a BAMF test centre; your naturalisation authority can tell you which ones are near you. Afterwards the BAMF sends you a certificate with your result. If you do not pass, you can retake the test.
You do not need the test if you have a German school-leaving qualification or are under 16. People who cannot meet the requirements because of illness, disability or age are also exempt. Your naturalisation authority decides whether an exemption applies to you.
For a settlement permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis) you need basic knowledge of the legal and social order and living conditions in Germany. This counts as proven if you have completed an integration course. Its final exam includes the test “Leben in Deutschland”: the same catalogue, 33 questions in 60 minutes.
For the integration course 15 correct answers are enough; for citizenship you need 17. The immigration authority decides which proof is sufficient in your case.
The app is translated into nine languages: German, English, Arabic, Ukrainian, Russian, Turkish, Persian, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. The translation sits below the German text, not in place of it, because the exam itself is in German.
Naturalisation takes effect when you receive your naturalisation certificate. You then apply for an ID card and passport at the passport authority where you live, usually the Bürgeramt. From age 24 the passport costs 70 euros and the ID card 46 euros. Passreif does not help with these applications; it only prepares you for the exams.
Two separate purchases, each paid once.
